Press Release
Coweta County Schools

Date: December 13, 2007

School system to open central registration center for new students

Beginning in 2008, parents with children who are new to the Coweta County School System will have a centralized location to register students for their districted school.

The school system’s Central Registration Office at 167 Werz Industrial Drive will begin handling all new student registrations beginning January 2, 2008.

Werz Industrial Drive is off Millard Farmer Boulevard/Highway 34 bypass, near Bullsboro Drive in Newnan.

In the past, registration of new students has been handled at each individual school. Beginning January 2, registration will no longer be available at schools, but will be handled at the new central registration office.

The registration center will only handle new registrations. Current students disenrolled after December 18, 2007 because of the school district affidavit process will have to be re-enrolled at their districted school, beginning January 2.

Parents can call the office at 770-254-5551 for appointments or for more information. Central registration appointment hours will be 8:00 a.m-12:00 p.m., and 1:30 p.m.-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The center’s registrar urges parents to call for an appointment to reduce wait times.

Information about registration and directions to the Central Office can also be found at www.cowetaschools.net/registration. Online forms are available at the site for parent convenience.

Registration procedures have not changed otherwise. Coweta’s 27 regular program schools operate on a district basis. To find out what school districts serve a home address, parents can call 770-254-2820.

Students must be five years old by September 1 in order to enroll in kindergarten and six years old by September 1 to enroll in first grade, per state law.

The following items are required to enroll a new student:

1. Birth Certificate – State issued, certified copy (hospital certificate not accepted)
2. Social Security Card
3. Immunization Certificate – (Georgia Department of Human Resources (DHR) immunization certificate form 3231 or a signed 30-day waiver)
4. Proof of Residence
o Current electric bill in parent’s name or letter from the electric company stating service has been connected.
o Current Lease or purchase agreement in the parent(s) or legal guardian(s) name.
5. State ID or Drivers License – Up-To-Date – (student may only be registered by biological parent(s) or legal guardian(s)) (Proof of custody/guardianship is required if applicable)
6. Custody papers - If parents are divorced they must provide a copy of custody papers. Legal guardian(s) will also have to provide a copy of custody papers. Custodial parent(s)/guardian(s) must live in appropriate school district.

8. Last Report Card/Withdrawal/Transfer Form with Grades – Due at registration. High school level transcripts are required for new high school students at the time of registration.
9. Authorization for releases of IEP or records (for students receiving Special Education or Gifted services). If an IEP or eligibility is not present at time of registration, services will be delayed until these records are received by the school.
10. Emergency contact information - (Parents must place something on file for the first day of school)

Students cannot be enrolled for school without the first five registration requirements listed above.

Pre-Kindergarten registration will still be handled at the schools, during the spring Pre-K enrollment period.
