elected
at-large
Board
Member
Frank
Farmer
as the
school
board’s
2007
Chairman,
at their
first
meeting
of the
New Year
on
Tuesday,
January
9.
Farmer
thanked
his
fellow
Board
Members
for
their
confidence
in him
as he
took the
helm of
his
first
meeting.
“We need
to stay
together
and work
as a
team,
because
we’ve
lost an
all-star,”
said
Farmer,
speaking
of the
late
Mitch
Powell,
who
served
as the
Board’s
last
chairman.
Powell
passed
away in
November,
after an
extended
illness,
and was
honored
by the
Board at
the
January
meeting.
Powell’s
5th
district
seat
remains
unfilled.
The
Board’s
charter
requires
that the
remaining
board
members
appoint
a
citizen
from
within
the
district
to
fulfill
the
remainder
of Mr.
Powell’s
term.
Chairman
Farmer
announced
that the
Coweta
County
Board of
Education
will
meet at
8 a.m.
on
Friday,
January
12, in a
called
meeting
at 237
Jackson
Street
in
Newnan
to
appoint
a new
member
to the
seat.
The
Board
also
welcomed
newly-elected
Board
Member
Harry
Mullins,
who
represents
the 3rd
district.
Mullins
served
on the
school
board
before,
as an
at-large
board
member,
before
retiring
from the
position
six
years
ago.
The
board
fulfilled
several
annual
duties
at their
first
meeting
of 2007,
in
addition
to
electing
a new
chairman.
The
Board
elected
Brian
Roy as
Vice-Chairman,
Sue
Brown as
Board
Secretary,
and
Steve
Bedrosian
as Board
Treasurer.
System
Comptroller
Keith
Chapman
was
re-elected
as
Assistant
Treasurer
and
Connie
Hanson
as Board
Clerk.
All
officer
positions
were
approved
by a
unanimous
vote.
The
Board
also
approved
meeting
times
for
2007,
and will
meet for
the
regular
monthly
meeting
at 6:30
p.m. on
the
second
Tuesday
of each
month,
at the
237
Jackson
Street
Board of
Education
office
in
Newnan.
