Coweta County School Board names several 2007- 08 administrators

The Coweta County Board of Education approved several administrative positions for the 2007-2008 school year, at its March 13 regular meeting, upon the recommendations of Superintendent Blake Bass.

Jerry Davis was named the school system’s Associate Superintendent, beginning in July, 2007. Davis – who is currently the Assistant Superintendent of Operations – will replace Associate Superintendent John Dunn, who retires at the end of this school year. Davis is a 31–year educator, and is the former Principal of Evans Middle School. Davis was only the second principal of Evans, succeeding Herman Fletcher, who helmed the school from its opening in 1972 to 1988. Davis enjoyed a similarly long principalship, lasting 16 years until he was promoted to Assistant Superintendent in 2005.

Davis earned his B.S. and his Masters degrees from Mississippi State University, and his Education Specialist Degree from West Georgia College. He began teaching in his home state of Mississippi before moving to Coweta County in 1985 to teach at Central High School. He served as Assistant Principal at Evans Middle and Central High before becoming Principal of Evans in 1988.

Wayne Outlaw was named the school system’s Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum. Outlaw, who is currently the Director of Human Resources and Professional Learning, is a 27–year educator. He began with the school system as a teacher at Fairmount Elementary School, O.P. Evans and East Coweta High School. He has served as an Assistant Principal at East Coweta High School, Principal of Canongate Elementary, School, and was the first Principal of Northgate High School. Outlaw has served as the Director of Human Resources and Professional Learning since 2003. Outlaw earned his B.A. in Business Education from the University of Alabama, and his Masters and Administrative Supervision degree from West Georgia College.

Dr. Steve Barker was named the school system’s Director of Administrative Services. Barker, who is currently the principal of Newnan High School, is a 17 –year educator. He began with the school system in 1990 as teacher and coach at East Coweta High School and Evans Middle School, and later served as Assistant Principal of Northgate High, Principal of Canongate Elementary School and Principal of Smokey Road Middle School. He has served as Principal of Newnan High School since 2003. Barker earned his B.A. in Social Sciences from Shorter College, his Master’s from State University of West Georgia, and his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.

Rusty Knorr was named the Director of English Language Learners and REACH (gifted). Knorr, who is currently the Director of Operations, is a 37–year educator. Throughout his career, and before coming to Coweta County, Knorr taught in junior high school, served as a junior high and middle school and assistant principal, a principal, a Coordinator of Special Services and Federal Programs and a Director of Operations. He also served as Assistant Superintendent and Interim Superintendent in Eufala City Schools. He came to Coweta County as Facilities Coordinator in 2003 and became Director of Operations in 2004. Knorr earned his B.S. at Troy State University and Master’s at Auburn University.

Sylvia Hooker was named the school system’s Director of Professional Learning. Hooker, who is currently a Performance Consultant on loan from the Coweta County School System to Georgia’s Leadership Institute for School Improvement, is a 23-year educator. Hooker taught in Hartford, Connecticut from 1984 to 1995 before coming to Coweta County. In 1996 she taught at Northgate Middle School, and became an Assistant Principal at Central Middle School in 1997 and then principal of Fairmount Alternative School in 1998. She has worked with the Georgia Department of Education since 2002. Hooker earned her B.S., Master’s and Education Specialists degrees at Central Connecticut State University.

The administrative positions were filled with current Coweta County School System employees, and the system has begun a search to fill the vacated positions.
