Elementary
School
students
started
off
their
2007
Field
Day with
a
gesture
of
thanks
to
American
soldiers.
Elementary
schools
throughout
Coweta
County
are
holding
field
days
either
this
week or
next,
before
the last
day of
school
on May
25. It’s
a way
for
students,
parents
and
teachers
to have
some fun
outside
and
celebrate
a
school-year
of hard
work.
Before
Willis
Road
kicked
off
their
tug-of-war
contests
and
other
events,
Coach
Swain
Young
and
Principal
Charles
Smith
led
students
in a
tribute
to
American
veterans.
The
students
– pre-k
through
5th
grade –
donned
red,
white
and blue
field
day
shirts
with “We
are able
to play
and
learn…
Because
of their
willingness
to pay
every
day”
emblazoned
on the
front.
Then
over 800
students
grouped
together
on the
school
field
for a
tribute
photo.
The
Northgate
Trio
sang the
National
Anthem,
and a
30-second
moment
of
silence
was held
for
American
veterans
and
active
service
men and
women.
On the
back of
the
shirts
were the
names of
fathers,
uncles,
and
other
family
and
friends
of
Willis
Road
students
and
teachers,
who have
served
or are
serving
in the
military
currently.
“The
Wolf
Pack
thanks
you all
for what
you do”
the
shirts
read.
The last
week of
school
May 21
through
25 is
filled
with
activities.
Aside
from
field
day and
class
activities,
all
elementary
schools
are
holding
honors
days and
matriculation
ceremonies
next
week.
