Application for Coweta County School
System Pre-Kindergarten classes will begin this Monday, March 10
and continue through noon on Friday, March 21.
Parents can apply to enroll their students in 2008-09 Pre-K
classes at their child’s district elementary school through
those dates. If students are selected for placement in the
limited-space classes on March 21, parents will then be asked to
formally enroll their child in the Coweta county School System.
No enrollment documentation is required to apply for Pre-K at
schools, but parents should be certain that they are applying at
their correct district school (call 770-254-2820 to inquire
about which elementary school district serves a home). Students
must also be four years old on or before September 1, 2008 to be
eligible for next year’s Pre-K.
Pre-K students in the Northside, Ruth Hill, Elm Street,
Atkinson, and Jefferson Parkway districts will apply for slots
at Jefferson Parkway Elementary School, since those schools’
Pre-K classes are located at Jefferson Parkway. All other
students should apply at their district school.
To apply, parents must visit their districted school and
complete a purple Coweta County Pre-K registration form for each
child. The parent will cut off the registration portion of the
form and place it in the lottery box each site will have.
Unlike other elementary school grades, there are a limited
number of Pre-K classes in Coweta schools. If more than 20
students apply for an available Pre-K class, the school must
hold a lottery drawing to determine placement in the class.
Application for the classes will end at noon on Friday, March
21; lottery drawings will be held at 1 p.m. that day. Parents do
not need to be present for the drawing.
Parents whose children are selected by lottery can then formally
register their child in the following weeks at the school
system’s Central Office registration center, on Werz Industrial
Drive in Newnan. The names of students who are not selected will
be placed on a waiting list for that class.
Georgia’s four-year-old Pre-Kindergarten classes are also
offered at private day care centers around Coweta County, which
register students separately.
Elementary schools will accept Pre-K applications for eligible
students on Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the
period. To accommodate parents’ work schedules, all schools will
hold an expanded registration day from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on March
18.
Application for Pre-K slots and registration for selected
students are being held separately because the school system has
begun registering all new students at the Werz Drive central
office.
More information about registration times and procedures can be
found at district schools, or by calling the registration office
at 770-254-5551. Information about new student registration and
directions to the Central Office can also be found at
www.cowetaschools.net/registration.
Parents will also be able to register their five-year-old
students early for 2008-09 Coweta County Kindergarten classes
the school system’s Central Office registration center, from
April 1 through May 1.
Students must be five years old on or before September 1, 2008,
to be eligible for Kindergarten classes at their district
school. Parents interested in touring their children’s new
school are urged to call the school for a visit, but
registration will not be done at individual schools sites.
Parents who wish to register their children for next year’s
Kindergarten classes can call the Central Office registration
center for appointments or for more information. The center’s
registrar urges parents to call for an appointment to reduce
wait times.
After School Programs are also available at Coweta County
schools, and parents can inquire about fees and times at their
district school. |
