Northgate High School Assistant Principal
Dr. Jan Franks was named as the new principal of Arnall Middle
School by the Coweta County Board of Education on Tuesday.
The Board met in called session at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the 237
Jackson Street Board of Education office for the personnel
decision, which was made on recommendation of Superintendent
Blake Bass.
Franks will begin her new post after the end of this school
year, and will officially become an Arnall Knight on July 1. She
replaces Arnall Principal Rick Waggoner, who was named as the
new principal of East Coweta High School by the Board last
month. Waggoner will begin his new position starting July 1, as
well.
Franks is a 21–year educator, who has served as a Northgate
assistant principal since 2001. She earned her B.A. in Early
Childhood Education at Mercer University in 1987, and earned
Masters Degrees in Early Childhood Education and Education
Leadership Education at the State University of West Georgia in
1998. Franks earned her Education Specialist and Doctorate
degrees from Argosy University in 2005 and 2007, respectively.
Franks began her teaching career in Clayton County in 1987,
where she worked for seven years. She came to Coweta County
Schools in 1994 as a teacher at Canongate Elementary School, and
then was named an assistant Principal at Northgate High School
in 2001.
The Board’s decision fills the last Coweta County school
principal position open for the next school year, although a
number of open assistant principal principals positions remain.

Outgoing Arnall Middle School Principal Rick Waggoner, left,
will be succeeded next year by Dr. Jan Franks, who is currently
serving as an assistant principal at Northgate High School.
Waggoner is leaving to become principal of East Coweta High
School. |
