Atkinson Chorus

The Atkinson Chorus program has gained positive recognition in Newnan and surrounding areas.  Last year, the chorus performed for the City of Newnan Employees Christmas Luncheon. The chorus was also invited to the Festival of Trees at the World Congress Center in Atlanta, GA, and will perform for this event again in December.  The chorus has performed regularly with the Newnan High School Chorus and will do so this year at the NHS Fall Concert and Madrigal Dinner. Last year, the Atkinson Chorus participated in the Southern Star Music Festival. The chorus hopes to return to the festival and repeat their Gold Standard performance rating in May.

Singing at Atkinson Elementary School is an art-not a play period.  Once a student enters the music room, he/she is part of a physical and mental training program.  Students learn the discipline of working together as a team as well as the mechanics of singing.

The Atkinson chorus students will meet on Tuesday afternoons from 2:30pm until 5:00pm. Students are expected to make a year long commitment to the program.  Once a child is scheduled for chorus, he or she is expected to remain for the entire school year.  Music is selected and purchased based on the ability and number of students who sign-up for chorus. Performances can be hurt if students do not sing next to the students that they regularly rehearse. Therefore, it is important that each student be present for all rehearsals and concerts.  Any student who consistently misses rehearsals will not be allowed to perform with the chorus.

Each chorus student should:

1.  Participate in all rehearsals unless there is an extreme emergency. (Please notify Mrs. Moseley of any conflicts by email or note ASAP.) Rehearsals will be held on Tuesday afternoons from 2:30-5:00pm.  Students will be given a break before rehearsal begins.  Students should bring a snack for this break.

*Students who have not been picked-up by 5:15pm will be in the music room with Mrs. Moseley.

**Students who have not been picked-up by 5:30pm will be sent to the after school program.

2.  Participate in all concerts unless there is an extreme emergency. (Please notify Mrs. Moseley of any conflicts by email or note ASAP.
