AMS - About Us
About our History
The
facility is named in honor of the great Newnan resident and former Georgia
Governor, Ellis G. Arnall, who served from 1943 until 1947. Governor
Arnall was a noted supporter of education and educators. During his
tenure as Governor, he established a teacher’s retirement system. When
asked what he was proudest of during his time as Governor, Arnall replied,
"Spending more than 50 cents of every dollar on education. I believe in a
free and open education."
Arnall has been under the leadership of five
principals. David Parrott opened the school in 1994 and upon his
retirement he was followed by Charles Smith, Marc Guy,
Rick Waggoner, and our current principal, Jan
Franks.
Our school colors are royal blue and silver, and Knights are our mascot.
About our Facility
Arnall Middle School is located at 700 Lora Smith Road in Newnan, Georgia.
The
original 109, 809 square foot facility was completed and occupied in the
fall of 1994. The total contract cost of the initial structure was
$4,700,000. An 8 classroom
addition was completed in the spring of 2004.
About
our Instruction
Arnall Middle School was designed to implement the middle school program.
Arnall educators are known for their innovative and creative instructional
programs designed to effectively meet the needs of every child. At Arnall,
we follow the concept of teaming. Teaming is the heart of the middle
school. Students are grouped into small learning communities that consist
of academic teachers. These teachers have shared planning time which is
used to plan team lessons, conduct conferences, and work cooperatively with
students, parents, and each other. Students also have the added benefit of
“connections” classes away from the team academic setting which allow
students the opportunity to explore many areas of interests such as fine
arts, computers, and physical education.
Arnall Middle School and the Coweta County School System’s overall goal is
to provide high-level, engaging work for all learners and leaders to meet
the needs of all stakeholders. Our vision is to ensure the success of each
student.
Arnall Middle School had the distinct privilege of being the home school of
the 2002 Georgia State Teacher of the year, Lorraine Johnson. Ms.
Johnson represented Arnall and the Coweta County School System throughout
the state of Georgia as a teacher leader, spokesperson, and presenter.
She was also one of the four National Teacher of the Year finalist.
Ms. Johnson is currently the
principal at Madras Middle School.
About
our Partnerships
Educators at Arnall
believe strongly in collaboration at all levels. Each new teacher at Arnall
has a mentor or buddy teacher to offer guidance and assistance throughout
the year. This partnership serves as a valuable tool for assisting with
instructional planning, classroom management, and organization.
Arnall Middle School is proud to participate in the School Council
Program. The council is a consensus-building body which was created to
bring the school and community closer in a spirit of cooperation in order to
solve educational problems, improve academic achievement, and bring parents
into the school decision making process.
The
Arnall PTO serves as a partnership between teachers and parents in order to
enhance the quality of learning at Arnall Middle School. Recent projects by
the Arnall PTO include the creation and maintenance of the outdoor
classroom, teacher appreciation events, educational fundraisers, and the
Knight Life program.
Our
school has partnered with several local businesses which support the
beliefs, mission, and vision of Arnall Middle School. Through their assistance
and encouragement, Arnall is able to augment our educational program.
