What is the Early Intervention Program?
Most parents are very grateful for their child to receive extra assistance with schoolwork from a teacher or school employee. Tutoring can be expensive, and although it is of utmost importance to work with your child at home, it can sometimes be a challenge to a peaceful relationship. The Early Intervention Program is designed to give assistance to children who are “ at risk of not reaching or maintaining academic grade level” and to help them achieve the skills that have been missed or that they are behind in.
In my class there is a strong focus on phonics skills, and vocabulary along with teaching the stories and comprehension skills that the students are responsible for each week from their regular classroom. Reading is much more than just calling words. There are many components to the reading process. I find that a struggling reader has not been able to retain lessons that should have been learned in previous grade levels or that it takes them more time to learn and remember the skills taught.
It does not mean that they can’t learn. It just means that it doesn’t seem to come as easily
