GERMAN III  (614130010)

 

TEACHER:  HERR SEALS

 

Description:  Builds on skills acquired in German I and II.  Reading and conversational skills on a more advanced level are emphasized.  Advanced structure and composition are significant aspects of this course.  Much of the instruction is conducted in German.

 

 

Goals and Objectives:  By the end of the term, the students will need to demonstrate the following skills:

 

-          Expressing emotions and opinions in a more fluent manner

-          Making assumptions, expressing skills of persuasion

-          Reporting events in the recent and distant past more easily

-          Expressing conjecture as to future events, plans and wishes and conditions contrary to fact

-          Reading more varied material for content and translation when necessary

 

 

Methods of Instruction:

 

-          Student oral and written responses to questions, including guided essays

-          Review of and further progression in German structure, with particular discussion and implementation of higher skills

-          Listening comprehension exercises

-          Progression from a mid-level to mid-high level fluency in class discussions

-          Guided conversations in pairs or groups

-          Music, video and other items relating to culture, current events and history

-          More extensive use of text and outside reading material in German

-          Communicative CDs

-          Visual materials about culture and history

-          Other themed information as appropriate

 

 

Evaluation:

 

-          Teacher observation

-          Class participation/speaking German

-          Written and oral quizzes

-          Chapter tests

-          Special essays/reports/projects

-          Term exams
