GERMAN IV  (614140010)

 

TEACHER:  HERR SEALS

 

 

Description:  Builds on skills acquired in German I, II and III.  Higher level reading and discussion in German of cultural, current event and historical topics, as well as short stories and biography are significant parts of this course. An essential German structure review and expansion is also included.  Completion of several projects in German will enhance the student’s understanding and use of research materials centering on the German-speaking areas of Europe.  Most of the instruction is conducted in German.

 

Goals and Objectives:  By the end of the term, the students will need to demonstrate an improvement and greater understanding of the following skills:

 

-            Expressing opinions and answering questions in a more fluent manner

-            Reading more varied material for content

-            Progressing in reading comprehension and speed

-            Engaging in more in-depth research of Germanic culture, current events and history

-            Involving critical thinking with projects

 

Methods of Instruction:

 

-            Student oral and written responses to questions, including guided essays

-            Review of and further expansion in German structure, with greater implementation of higher skills

-            Progression from a mid-high to high level fluency  in class discussions

-            Expanded conversations in pairs or groups based on reading materials

-            Music, video and other items relating to culture, current events and history

-            Expanded use of outside reading materials where appropriate
