  1. Only four players will play in a round.  No substitutions may be made during rounds.  At the beginning of each round the Reader will identify the team captain.

  1. Any person may buzz in at any time during the reading of a toss-up question.  The Reader will immediately stop reading the question and recognize that person by team name and number. If the person answers the toss-up question correctly, his team receives ten points and is allowed to answer the associated twenty-point bonus question.  Conferring verbally or non-verbally on toss up question.  If the recognized team is disqualified for conferring, the other team will be allowed to answer the toss-up as read.

  1. The bonus question is a multiple part question with either four parts worth five points each or two parts worth ten points each.  The team may confer on bonus questions, and the captain or his designee may answer.

  1. If the toss-up question is answered incorrectly, the Reader will read the toss-up again for the other team only if it has not been read completely one time.  If stopped in the middle of a question, the Reader will read the entire question for the other team.  A toss-up or bonus question may be read completely only once.

  1. Toss-up:  When a person is recognized on a toss-up question, he has three seconds to begin a response which must be given without pause.

Bonus:  On a bonus question the team has five seconds consultation time per part for a four-part question or ten seconds consultation time per part for a two-part question.  For math computation questions, fifteen seconds consultation time per part is allowed.  At the end of the consultation period the Timer will say Answer and the answer must be given immediately.

  1. If the team that answered the toss-up question correctly does not answer the bonus question correctly, the bonus question will bounce back immediately to the other team after each part of the question.  The other team will be allowed no extra time.  The toss-up winning team has the first opportunity to respond to all bonus questions.  If neither team answers a toss-up question correctly within five seconds, the Reader will give the answer to that question and then begin reading the next toss-up question.  Only the captain may answer a bonus-back question.

  1. There are no penalties for incorrect answers.  The only acceptable answers are those given on the Reader’s sheet.  The Reader is the final judge.

  1. Twenty toss-up questions with their associated bonus questions constitute a round.  The team with the most points at the conclusion of the twenty questions is the winner of that round.  Should the teams be tied, the Reader will ask the first of the tiebreaker questions.  The first team to answer correctly will be awarded ten points and win the round.

  1. No stacking of information (blitzing) is allowed.  Only the first piece of information given will be considered answer.

  1. All scores will be emailed to Cindy McGraw at cmcgraw@garesa.org by the end of the next school day so scores may be posted on the West Georgia RESA website.  Teams who attend at least four of the five matches will be eligible for the overall award.  The award will be based on an average of all games played.  Teams who attend all five matches will have their lowest round scores dropped.

  1. All participants and guests will demonstrate good sportsmanship at all times.
