Student Class Load

Each high school student in Coweta County will be required to take eight courses each year. Students enrolled in a cooperative education program (DCT, CBE) will count job training as a course and early release at a designated time. No student may earn more than 8 units in a school year, unless approval is obtained from the superintendent's office.

Grading Scale

The grading scale is used throughout the school system.

A 90 - 100
B 80 - 89
C 71 - 79
D 70
F Below 70

Attendance Requirements

Punctual and regular daily attendance in class is vital to the success of any student and is more critical in block scheduling because of the compressed nature of instruction. In accordance with local board of education policy and to ensure that students receive maximum benefit from the instructional activities, students are expected attend class each day.

Absences will be classified as excused or unexcused. Excused absences are those due to emergencies such as illness, death in the family, or other extreme circumstances; religious holidays, to serve as a page in the General assembly, school sponsored activities, and to register to vote. Unexcused absences are all failures to attend school other than those specifically excused by the administration. The classroom teacher will notify parents after the third (3rd) absence per class each term.

Make-Up Work

Absences and tardiness will be recorded in each individual class period. For grading purposes, the individual class absences will be used to determine number of days absent. Make-up work for absences must be completed according to the grading policy established by the teacher with three (3) days of the absence. Both excused and unexcused absences from class will result in a grade of zero for class assignments missed unless arrangements to make-up the work are made by the student with the teacher. All make-up work, including tests, are to be completed within a reasonable time based on the length of the absence and agreement between the teacher and the student. All work assigned prior to the absence is due on the day the student returns to school. It must be stressed that class work, especially in the block, often lends itself to participatory activities, which is difficult to make up.

In order to make up work after five (5) absences in each term, the student must receive written permission from the administration (Dr. Barker & Mrs. Cook - 12th, Mr. Mamon - 11th, and Mr. Green - 10th, Mr. Moore - 9th ). The school administration may also require an excuse from a doctor, dentist, health center, or court. Students with excessive absences will be automatically referred to the school social worker and/or the appropriate legal authorities.

Individual teachers or school may provide incentives for good attendance.
