As leaders of learners we believe that learning is a lifelong process and students are volunteers in their learning. Our goal is to create positive school environments that promote and support appropriate behavior of all students. Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) is a comprehensive tiered approach to implementing positive and consistent student discipline across the school system.
PBIS encourages a positive and safe climate school wide, in all locations and for all students, by systematically focusing on:
- the general school population
- students at risk
- students with intensive or chronic behavioral and emotional problems
The definition of and response to problem behavior needs to be consistent across classroom and non-classroom settings.
These environments are developed through the identification of common behavioral expectations that are valued by the school community and can apply to all students in all settings and situations. The school environment created:
- Teaches students skills to behave appropriately
- Positively acknowledges students engaging in those behaviors
- Provides consistency and stability in interactions among students and staff
PBIS promotes positive relationships in schools and provides students with social and behavioral skills to be successful learners, school citizens, and ultimately valued community members.
Progressive Discipline Procedures
When it is necessary to impose discipline, school administrators and teachers will follow a progressive discipline process. The degree of discipline to be imposed by each school official will be in proportion to the severity of the behavior of a particular student and will take into account the student’s discipline history, age of the student, and other relevant factors. The Code of Conduct provides a systematic process of behavioral correction in which inappropriate behaviors are followed by consequences. Disciplinary actions are designed to teach students self discipline and to help them substitute inappropriate behaviors with those that are consistent with the character traits from Georgia’s Character Education Program.
The following disciplinary actions may be imposed for any violation of this Code of Conduct:
- Warning and/or counseling with a School Administrator or Counselor
- Loss of privileges
- Isolation or Time Out
- Temporary removal from class or activity
- Notification of parents/guardians
- Parent/guardian conference
- Detention/Saturday School
- Temporary placement in an alternative education program
- Short-term suspension
- Referral to a tribunal for long-term suspension or expulsion
- Suspension or expulsion from the school bus
- Referral to law enforcement or juvenile court officials
Georgia law requires that certain acts of misconduct be referred to the appropriate law enforcement officials. The school will refer any act of misconduct to law enforcement officials when school officials determine such referral to be necessary or appropriate. The maximum punishment for an offense includes long-term suspension or expulsion, including permanent expulsion, but those punishments will be determined only by a disciplinary tribunal as outlined in the Coweta County Board of Education policies.
Restorative Empowerment Programs for Students & Parents:

Restorative Empowerment Programs provide a multi-tiered support system designed to increase the social-emotional, physical, and educational well being of each child and/or youth enrolled in the district. Additionally, the program uses a multi-disciplinary approach that permits ongoing collaboration with parents, supporting service agencies, and other community stakeholders. This system not only supports our commitment to student success, it also ensures that every child and/or youth has an equal opportunity to be educated in a positive learning environment.
Class I: Adolescent Drug & Alcohol Awareness Support Group (High School Only) Sessions: 6 (Please contact Janet Robertson at 770-254-2810 to enroll) Time: 5:00 - 6:30 PM
ADAA provides an overview of the effects of drugs and alcohol as well as real-life consequences related to drug and alcohol abuse.
ADAA helps participants learn from their mistakes and the mistakes of others rather than making their own over and over again.
ADAA helps participants learn from their peers about the legal, financial, and health effects of drugs and alcohol. They also learn how to create safe practices for the future.
Note: The youth must attend 6 classes per session. Drug and Alcohol participants will need to observe two sessions of Coweta Drug Court as a requirement of the class, and be accompanied by parent. Parent must contact Coweta County Adult Drug Court at 770-683-0205 for the dates and times of each session.
Class II: Restorative Empowerment Support Group (RESG) (Middle & High School Youth) Sessions: 6 (Please contact Janet Robertson at 770-254-2810 to enroll) Time: 5:00 - 6:30 PM
RESG focuses on teaching and building social-emotional skills, to include, but not limited to, self-regulation, identifying triggers, assertiveness training, coping strategies, planning and goal-setting, and communication skills.
RESG provides realistic alternatives specifically designed to decrease and/or reduce instances of peer conflict, aggression, and explosive behaviors for students.
RESG provides a safe place for students to discuss healthy coping skills while receiving positive and supportive feedback from peers and facilitator(s).
Families In Need of Services (FINS): Assist families in securing appropriate services to remedy the family’s dysfunction prior to a filing a Juvenile Court complaint. (Please contact Janet Robertson at 770-254-2810 to set up appointment) Times: 5:00- 5:30 PM; 5:30 - 6:00 PM; 6:00- 6:30 PM
FINS provides an immediate link for parents to access resources for the purpose of helping youth and teens who are struggling with social, emotional, and/or behavioral difficulty. It is also an attempt to provide proactive interventions to address pre-delinquent juvenile behaviors.
Provides a continuum of services from parenting education for parents of younger children to more intensive services for families of teens at risk for delinquent behaviors.
Informal process in a one-on-one setting for 30 minutes.
Focuses on strengthening the family unit.
Process referrals to community-based services and resources during a 30-minute pre-scheduled session with a Licensed School Social Worker.
Provide direct support to youth and teens struggling with truancy, ungovernable behaviors, and school-related concerns.
Services and supports for parents with children and youth in grades K-12.
